Allcon Contracting is enhancing building accessibility at PS 43 Bronx through the installation of a new elevator, including a building addition and excavation work to provide access to all floors. The scope includes construction of new single-user bathrooms, a code-compliant ramp at the main entrance, conversion of classrooms and programmatically unique spaces to meet accessibility requirements, installation of accessible bathrooms for 3-K, Pre-K, and K classrooms, and creation of Areas of Rescue Assistance on all floors above grade. The project also involves integration of elevator low-voltage systems with the Building Management System and a full roof replacement, including new roofing membranes, HVAC equipment, roof drains, and reconnection of associated piping and conduits. The most complex phase of the work—the complete replacement of the existing auditorium concrete slab, treatment of the existing steel structure, installation of new metal decking, and placement of new concrete over newly installed mechanical systems—was successfully completed during the summer shutdown period last year.
