Over the year-long renovation at Hunters Point Library, extensive accessibility upgrades and structural enhancements were completed to achieve full ADA compliance. To minimize disruption and maintain continuous public access, all construction work was performed during nighttime hours, allowing the library to remain open and clean for visitors throughout the project. The renovation included the construction of a new ADA-compliant skybridge that provides seamless access between the library’s multiple tiers, along with the installation of a modern wheelchair lift system to ensure all patrons can access every area of the facility. Comprehensive interior modifications were also undertaken, such as revising ramp slopes for safer access, reinstalling bathroom accessories at ADA-compliant heights, and adding new railings with adjusted heights to meet accessibility standards. All work utilized low-emission, durable, and environmentally responsible materials to promote improved indoor air quality, energy efficiency, and occupant well-being. Through careful coordination among the design team, accessibility consultants, and city stakeholders, the project was completed on schedule, resulting in a fully inclusive, accessible, and sustainable library environment ready to serve the diverse needs of the community.
